The History of Peace Lutheran Church

Peace Lutheran Church was established as the Northeast Naples Lutheran Mission in May, 2004, with Pastor Dennis Liebich as its missionary/pastor. It has been supported by the Southwest Florida Outreach Council and Faith, Marco, Grace, and Messiah Lutheran Churches in the Naples area.

In the beginning, Bible studies were held on Sunday evenings at Luther House on the campus of Christ Community Lutheran School. In February, 2005, public worship was begun, with services being held at Oakridge Middle School.

On Sunday, August 27, 2006, the congregation celebrated its Charter Sunday, with The Reverend Gerhard Michael, President of the Florida/Georgia District, as guest preacher. He was also there to welcome the congregation into affiliation with The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. At the service, church officers signed the Constitution of the Synod and Charter members signed the newly drafted Charter of the congregation.

The first officers of the congregation were elected in the Fall of 2006 and included Steve O’Donnell, President; Carl Scheuman, Vice-President; Dana Becker, Secretary; and Maria Pate, Treasurer. Bill Craven is the Elder.

In September, 2007, a choir was formed under the direction of Jan Grundeman, with Elena Hall as Accompanist.

On October 14, 2007, Pastor Liebich announced to the congregation that he has accepted the call to be the Pastor of Peace congregation. He was installed on November 4th, 2007 during the worship service.

The congregation continues to grow with membership spanning all age groups and with many young families.

In the Fall of 2008 the election resulted in Dan A. being elected to Vice-president, Maria P., Treasurer, and Carl S., Elder.

On April 17, 2008, the church closed on the property on Immokalee Road and a Capital Campaign Fund was initiated.

On May 3, 2008, the church held its first Work Day at the new property.

On May 4, 2008, three young adults were confirmed: William M., Dylan B., and Kaitlyn S..

On June 15, 2008, the congregation held a Celebration Sunday, when members presented their pledges for the “Building His Kingdom”  capital campaign.

In November of 2008, Women of Peace, our church’s  branch of the LWML ( Lutheran Women’s Missionary League) had their first meeting.
